The Annual Clackmannanshire Council Badminton Tournament took place on Sunday 7 February at the Johnstone Centre, Alva. Over 80 children from P1 to S6 took part in the seven categories of the competition.

Clackmannanshire Council Sports Development works with parents to encourage praise for effort and sportsmanlike behaviour. This has clearly paid off as parents encouraged all the children to do their best and the players produced some great performances and highly entertaining matches. There was a high standard of play by all players, many of whom were at the event for the first time, and a great atmosphere from the spectators.

All players that competed received a certificate of attendance, with the competition for medal places being close in each category.

Spokesperson for Sport and Leisure, Councillor Bobby McGill, commented; "I was impressed to hear about the standard of performance, skill and determination shown throughout the event. The running of such a successful day is a credit to the volunteers and organisers. I hope Clackmannanshire's young people will continue to play and develop, benefitting from the health and emotional rewards of sport."
