Clackmannanshire Council has been shortlisted in two categories of a national award. The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) has selected the Council as a finalist in the Sports, Leisure and Cultural Service category and the Catering Service category.

The Council's Primary PE was selected on the strength of a submission explaining how PE is joined up across all age groups. The Sports Development team have worked closely with schools, parents and clubs to develop a growing selection of sports with opportunities to advance from nursery right through to the level of representing Scotland.

The Council catering service, Class Cuisine, was set up in 2005 as an innovative new way of delivering food to schools and social services clients. The team have worked hard to re-train for changed roles and expand their service, and are always keen to improve and take on new business.

Provost Derek Stewart said, "I'm delighted that the success of these two services have been recognised. Some people might not realise that Clackmannanshire Council runs so many excellent sports development opportunities for all ages, or that we produce our own nutritious, healthy school meals. As these shortlisted nominations show, we can more than hold our own in these areas. I wish the teams every success in the final awards."

The final results of the APSE awards will be announced in Cardiff on 10 September.
