The Best Bar None scheme - which recognises high standards in pubs on crime prevention, public safety and responsible promotion - is being extended to Clackmannanshire.

The announcement by the Scottish Government has been welcomed by Clackmannanshire Council who will receive a share of a £50,000 fund in order to encourage safe and well run premises.

Councillor Kenny Earle, Partnership Portfolio Holder, said: "The Best Bar None scheme is a terrific initiative which has helped to make sure pubs in areas across Scotland are safe, well run and appealing places in which to socialise.

"Clackmannanshire is a great place to go out, with a wide variety of pubs. I think this scheme will help to make it even safer for people looking for an enjoyable night out.

"We are pleased to be working with the police and licensees to help them become 'Best Bar None' and help prevent alcohol-related crime and disorder."

The Best Bar None scheme was piloted in Glasgow city centre and has since expanded to cover Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Dundee, Falkirk, Fife, Glasgow, Inverness, Perth, Stirling and West Lothian. It is co-ordinated by the Scottish Business Crime Centre who will work in partnership with Clackmannanshire Business and the Alloa Town Centre BID to deliver the scheme locally.

As well as Clackmannanshire, the scheme is now being rolled out to Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Kilbride, Elgin, Milngavie and Lerwick.
