With major housing development under construction across Clackmannanshire, officers and members are working to ensure that future developments meet the highest standards of design and safety.
The Government recently announced its Designing Places Initiative which provides advice on better quality residential streets. This initiative recommends that planning authority staff become more skilled in design and that councillors be trained to help them become more aware of the importance of design and the impact of their decisions.
Clackmannanshire Council is at the forefront of taking this new approach to residential street design forward and has organised a training event for all staff involved in planning and design of residential developments, including the those who make roads and planning policies and standards.

It is also hoped that the training will inform a review of roads and transportation development guidelines that reflects the Council's desired new direction.
Councillor Eddie Carrick, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability said: "I am sure that the review of roads and planning development standards and policies that will flow from this event, and the enhanced knowledge and skills that officers will gain shall ensure that future residential developments in Clackmannanshire will be of the highest quality and will enhance Clackmannanshire's reputation having a high quality living environment."
