Clear as crystal

A Council document has achieved the Crystal Mark for the clarity of its language.

The scheme of delegation has been approved by the Plain English Campaign after their testing audience showed that the document can be read, understood and acted upon by the intended audience.

The scheme of delegation allows senior members of staff or standing committees (or both) to take decisions on behalf of the elected members of the Council.

Council leader Janet Cadenhead said: "There is a strong case for using plain English which is clear, concise and free from jargon. Making sure that messages are communicated clearly improves quality and efficiency. I am pleased that this document has received the Plain English Campaign's seal of approval and hope that further documents will considered for the Crystal Mark in the future."

This is the second Council document to be awarded the Crystal Mark after the Standing Orders were granted it last year. Standing orders govern procedures at Council and committee meetings.

Both documents are available on the Council's website, www.clacksweb.org.uk.
