There was a fantastic turnout for the Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Golf Festival on Tuesday 18th March. Over 220 pupils in P5 classes from 17 local primary schools participated in this annual event. Anne Manson, Active School Co-ordinator within the Council's Sports Development team, organised an indoor course for the school teams to test their skills by chipping and putting their way round the course.

The festival was divided into morning and afternoon and took place in Tullibody Civic Centre. The school teams went round 6 stations to accumulate points for their team.

The top 3 schools in the morning were:

  • 1st Claremont Primary B
  • 2nd Park Primary A
  • 3rd Clackmannan Primary

In the afternoon:

  • 1st Alva Primary A
  • 2nd Alva Primary B
  • 3rd Strathdevon Primary

The winning teams from each venue received shields, which were very kindly donated by the Alloa Rotary Club. Every child received a certificate and a bottle of water, generously donated by Highland Spring. Special thanks must also go to the Alloa Rotary Club for help with the scoring and paying for the buses which transported the pupils.

Councillor Bobby McGill presented the certificates and said, I was very impressed by the high standard of golfing skill and the way the pupils performed in their teams, supporting, encouraging and cheering each other along. The Council's schools staff and active co-ordinators must be commended for preparing their pupils so well and for getting so many to participate. We have a tremendous junior golfing talent in Clackmannanshire. We could have been looking at the next Tiger Woods at the event today.
