Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week

Monday - Sunday, 25th - 31st October

This initiative is an annual programme run through the Active Scotland section of the Scottish Government and supported by sportscotland and partner agencies.

2021 marks the fifth year of the programme which provides an opportunity to increase visibility and participation of women and girls in sport and physical activity, and the benefits it can have on physical, mental and social health.

Clackmannanshire Council's Sports Development Team is delighted to showcase the following opportunities and activities where local people can get involved this year. Don't forget to share your stories on social media.

Friday 22nd October 

Kick off 7.35pm: Scotland v Hungary – World Cup Qualifier, Hampden, Glasgow

Cheer on the Scottish Women’s national football team at Hampden as a great launch event for Women and Girls Week.

Monday 25th October 

9.15am: Walk, Jog, Run for Fun - West End Park

Meet in the car park and enjoy this fun free session.

A come and try fitness session aimed at beginners and those looking to get more active. No running experience is necessary. To get involved contact Kenny Cook at kcook@clacks.gov.uk or call 07812 607 425.

4-4.45pm: Game on Girls - Wasp Centre Pods 

Free football sessions for girls in P4-7 in partnership with Wasp Community FC.

4.45-6pm: Wee County Archers - Alva Academy Games Hall   

A new free come and try session at the soft archery club for girls in P4-7.

6-8pm: Social Badminton - Alva Academy Games Hall 

Join in this fun social badminton session. Come along with friends or by yourself.

6.30pm: SWAG Fitness Session - Sauchie Hall 

Fitness session aimed and women and girls and open to all 18+. The class will be a mix of exercises and will include the use of some equipment. Free for Women and Girls Week then £2 a session.

6-9.00pm: Golf Activators Course - Lornshill Academy 

This is a free training opportunity for those aged 16+ interested in golf.

What is the Activator Programme?

The Activator programme will provide individuals with an interactive and practical training course that will enable them to support their PGA Professional to introduce more people to golf.

7-8pm: Clackmannan County Cricket Club Junior Cricket - Tullibody Civic Centre

Free come and try fun indoor cricket session delivered by Clackmannanshire Cricket Club for children in Primary 6-7.

7-8.30pm: Wee County Warriors Netball – Alloa Academy  

Bounce Back Netball session at Alloa Academy open to anyone 18+. All abilities and fitness levels welcome. First session free.

Tuesday 26th October 

7.05pm: Scotland v Sweden Friendly, St Mirren Paisley

Another chance to see the Scottish Women’s National Football Team in action.

7-8pm: Zumba Class - Alloa Academy 

Zumba is a fun and sociable dance based fitness class that uses a fusion of Latin and international rhythms with easy to follow moves. It includes both high energy cardio, and resistance training components designed to tone and sculpt the entire body.

Designed for adults of all ages and fitness levels, and class participants at any level can start Zumba right away.

Wednesday 27th October 

11am to 12 noon: Walking Netball - Tullibody Civic Centre 

Walking Netball session aimed at anyone over the age over 18. The session is a slower more accessible version of the game and sessions are fun and friendly £3 per session.

No booking required.

4-5pm: Come and try Skiing

This complete Beginners only session is open to women and girls who have never skied before. Please refer to our Firpark enrolment page for information. Session must be booked in advance by calling Firpark on 01259 751772.

6-7.00pm: Women’s Circuit Class - Alloa Academy 

Come along and try this free taster session in the dance studio.  Based on interest this class may become a weekly activity. To register to attend, email leisurebookings@clacks.gov.uk.

Thursday 28th October 

9-9.30am: SWAG HIIT Fitness - Sauchie Hall 

Short half an hour intense exercise class at Sauchie hall with a mix of body weight and free weight equipment.   

Free for Women and Girls Week then £2 a session.

12noon-1pm: Park Run - West End Park

Join us for a run, jog or walk around our 3km course at lunch time. Meet at the Sports Development tent and follow the pre set course. Open to everyone – come along and get involved.

No registration needed – just turn up and take part.

3.30-4.15pm and 4.15-5pm: Game on Girls Football - Tullibody Civic Centre

6-6.45pm: Gentle Yoga - Lornshill Academy

This is an all levels gentle yoga class to decompress, destress, and feel good.

Gentle yoga is a great way to slow down, connect with your body, and calm your mind. This practice is ideal for anyone new to yoga, but everyone will enjoy this opportunity to open up their body, breathe deeply and simply feel good.

7-8pm: Seasonal Yoga - Lornshill Academy

Seasonal yoga helps improve your flexibility, posture and core strength and the function of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive and hormonal systems using various yoga positions. Yoga also works with the meridians of the body and the energy of the seasons. Suitable for all levels of fitness.

7-8pm: Women Only Weights Class - Alloa Academy 

The class is designed to help shape and tone muscles but will not increase the size of the muscles. Strength training can help you manage or lose weight, and it can increase your metabolism to help you burn more calories. It can enhance your quality of life and improve your ability to do everyday activities. Strength training can also protect your joints from injury.

7-8pm: Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Panel Conversation (virtual event) 

As part of the Week activities, Active Scotland and Actify are creating a live virtual panel conversation event. This event will be made up of a Chair and panel members to share real experiences and stories around the theme. The panel will consist of people from different backgrounds and experiences across sectors.

Friday 29th October

9.30am: HIIT Class

This class can be accessed through the @GetActiveSauchie Facebook page and is free to attend – just log on and take part live or watch back in your own time.

6-6.40pm, 7-7.40pm and 8-8.40pm: Lane swimming - Dollar Academy

Sessions are limited to a maximum of 12 swimmers. There are 4 lanes available for use for slow (2 lanes), medium and fast swimmers. All swimming must be in a clockwise direction.
