Sports Council Awards Criteria

The criteria below should be referred to when completing your Sports Council Awards Nomination Form.

Junior and Senior Award

  • An individual who
    • has shown dedication to their sport.
    • has competed in club at national and/or international level.
    • may not have won a major title, but has competed in major competitions.

Team of the Year

  • A team
    • who have competed in club, national and/or international level.
    • who may not have won a major title, but have competed in major competitions.
  • More than one team can be considered from each club, but they will be considered separately and not as a whole club nomination.

Primary and Secondary School Team of the Year

  • A school team
    • that has competed in inter school, regional or national competitions.
    • that is all male, all female or mixed.
  • Teams can be considered as joint age groups, for example P5, P6 and P7 or S3 to S6 if they competed together or represented the whole school.

Triumph Over Adversity (Participation)

  • An individual
    • who has shown dedication to their sporting activity.
    • have made a weekly commitment to attend classes/sessions.
    • has shown exceptional effort regardless of challenges faced.

Triumph Over Adversity (Sports Competitor)

  • An individual
    • who has shown dedication to their sport.
    • who has competed in club, national and/or international level including local BOCCIA competitions and Forth Valley Disability Sports events and Scottish Disability Sport.
    • who may not have won a major title, but has competed in major competitions.

Coach of the Year (Participation)

  • A coach who
    • has adopted a person centred approach to coaching.
    • has delivered regular quality coaching sessions to those taking part.
    • has created safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment for participation.
    • has made a positive impact on their community through sports and physical activity.

Coach of the Year (Competition)

  • A coach who
    • has adopted a person centred approach to coaching.
    • has been responsible for identifying and nurturing talent in line with the sports long term athlete/player development model.
    • has invested time and energy in their development as a coach in order to meet the needs of their athlete/players.
    • has coached athletes or teams who have made an impact at district, regional or national level which may include a significant improvement in performance, although not necessarily the winning of titles.

Primary Young Leader Award

  • A young leader who
    • has gone above and beyond what is required of them as a young leader.
    • has dedicated a substantial amount of time to volunteer in sport and physical activity in their school.
    • has been an inspiration and a positive role model for other pupils.

Young Leader/Volunteer Award

  • A young leader who
    • has worked in any aspect of their school, club, community group and Community Sports Hub or governing body and without them the organisation or community would not be the same.
    • has dedicated a substantial amount of time to volunteer in sport and or physical activity.
    • has been an inspiration a positive role model and gone above and beyond what is required of them as a volunteer.

Services to Sport and Lifetime Contribution to Sports Award

  • A sports person who
    • has been involved with a club(s) or team over a sustained period of time.
    • is a player, coach, administrator or a combination of more than one of these.
    • is someone who has helped raise funds or supported fund raising events for a team/club over a period of time.
    • has been involved in the organisation of a sport without the affiliation to a club or team for example organising tournaments or running Leagues.
