The Scottish Government is committed to the near doubling of entitlement to funded early learning and childcare to 1140 hours a year by 2020 for all 3 and 4 year olds and eligible 2 year olds. The aim is to provide high quality, flexible early learning and childcare that is accessible and affordable for all families.
The first in a series of action plans is available to refer to ‘A Blueprint for 2020: The Expansion of Early Learning and Childcare in Scotland: 2017-18 Action Plan’.
Currently all 3 and 4 year olds, and eligible 2 year olds, are entitled to 600 hours of free early learning and childcare.
In Clackmannanshire the first phase of the implementation of 1140 hours is well underway.
Coalsnaughton Nursery Class has been offering 1140 hours to all children since January 2018.
Sauchie Nursery School currently offer 1140 hours to children who meet certain criteria.
Phase 2 will see the new Tullibody South Nursery, which will be open from 8am-6pm, all year round offering 1140 hours. This will commence August 2019.
In addition both Banchory and St Serf's nursery classes will offer 1140 hours during term time, again from August 2019.
Clackmannan Nursery Class is currently being refurbished. Once this is completed, they will also offer 1140 hours during term time.
Phase 3 will see a brand new nursery open in Menstrie, which will replace the current nursery class. This too will be open 8am-6pm all year round.
A nursery class will also open at Craigbank Primary School. Anticipated opening of both these establishments is currently October 2019.
From August 2020, all other local authority nurseries, partner private nurseries and partner childminders will be in a position to offer 1140 hours.
