Forth Coastal Project

The Forth Coastal Project was the result of £230,000 funding from the 'Coastal Communities Fund' in 2012.

The project area surrounded the river Forth - encompassing each of the coastal communities along the river in the Clackmannanshire Council area and beyond.

Project Summary

The Forth Coastal Project's ambition was to rekindle awareness around the significance of the river Forth in terms of natural heritage and as a green leisure resource.

Local communities were invited to find out more about the project and get involved through a number of events over the two year timescale. In total, almost 400 events were delivered and the project reached over 10,000 people across Forth Valley and at wider Scottish events.

Several project partners were involved in realising the project aims. Some of this work will continue in future years through the Inner Forth Landscape Initiative(IFLI) who partnered with the Forth Coastal Project in year 2.

Project Aims

The project brought together a number of local partners in and around the river Forth to achieve 4 primary aims:

• The creation of up to 20 employment and training opportunities within the 'green' sector.
  • A total of 17 individuals were supported through the project.
• Creation of an area of accessible wetland acting as a new hub for wildlife and public alike.
  • The Forth Coastal Project used capital funds to seed the development of the Black Devon Wetlands providing the site with fencing, land management and equipment.
• A study of flood management options along the river Forth.
  • An options appraisal was completed by ABPmer in the first project year.
• Community engagement events to reconnect local communities with the significance of the Forth.
  • The project successfully delivered almost 400 events reaching over 10,000 people.

Work on the project commenced in June 2013 and concluded in August 2015.
