Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places

October 2018

Clackmannanshire Council is consulting on polling districts and polling places during the months of October and November. The aim of the review is to seek comments on the present division of polling districts and the suitability of the buildings used on election days for polling purposes. It is not about Ward boundaries as these are set by the Boundary Commission for Scotland. Residents and interested groups are therefore invited to make submissions on the current arrangements.

Nikki Bridle, Chief Executive and Returning Officer for Clackmannanshire Council said: "The Council has a statutory obligation to carry out a review of its polling districts and polling places. In carrying out the review, the Council has to take into account a range of factors in trying to find a balance which ensures the integrity and efficiency of the poll, together with reasonable accessibility for voters. It is important, therefore, that those who wish to comment on current and potential alternative arrangements take the opportunity to provide feedback through the consultation process.”

This is the first stage of the consultation and the public have until 30 November 2018 to make their representations.

The feedback received will inform the proposals which will go out for final consultation in March and April next year. These proposals and any further representations will be presented to Council to agree.

Further information on each of the current polling districts and polling places, the Returning Officer’s representations, including any considerations for potential change, and the comments received during the consultation can be found on the Council's website or alternatively contact the election office, tel: 01259 452266.

Notes to Editors

Polling District: the area created by the division of an electoral ward into smaller parts, within which we can designate a polling place that is convenient to electors.

Polling Place: the building where polling takes place within a polling district. A polling place may have more than one station within it.
