Woodside Children's Unit, which provides individual residential support to young people aged eleven upwards in Clackmannanshire has received a very positive report from the Care Inspectorate.

The report, which followed an unannounced inspection, awarded grades of Very Good and Excellent in the assessment of the unit's performance, which also included feedback from service users and families.

The inspector found:

- The quality of care and support was graded very good. Young people were extremely clear about their experience of being involved in making decisions, and processes were based on trusting and open relationships between staff and young people.

- The quality of the environment was graded as very good. Staff and young people worked together to keep the environment pleasant and there was an established culture of taking care of surroundings.

- The quality of staffing was graded as very good. Inspectors observed that staff and management demonstrated a child centred approach. Young people's needs were their primary concern and staff brought a good deal of enthusiasm to their work.

- The quality of management and leadership was graded as excellent. Young people told inspectors that regular visitors were encouraged to come to the house, which demonstrated a culture of openness and transparency and allows visitors to make direct comment on the quality of service.

Cllr Les Sharp, Convener of Housing, Health and Care commented: "The Council is committed to helping our young people and their families get all the support and help they need, in often very challenging circumstances. I am pleased to see this very positive report by the Care Inspectorate, which finds so much good practice at Woodside, and shows the valuable efforts by staff, young people and the local community. Inspectors have praised the number of positive outcomes for our young people using the service, and I am particularly happy to see them acknowledge the established partnership working between staff and other professionals to support young people's safety and consistency of care."
