Businesses and organisations in Alloa Town Centre have delivered a comprehensive 'YES' vote to continuing the area's Business Improvement District (BID).

Representing almost 200 companies in Alloa town centre, Alloa Town Centre BID was established in 2008 and had a five year mandate to work in partnership with other organisations to deliver real tangible improvements for the town centre.

Now five years on, a renewal ballot was held to ensure that those involved wanted the BID to continue and to collectively invest in the town centre by paying an additional levy to improve their trading environment.

Following a lengthy consultation process and renewal ballot businesses and property owners voted with an impressive 76% of those voting in favour.

The result means that the objectives presented in the Town Centre BID Business Plan 2013 - 2018 will now be delivered with Christmas events including the return of the Christmas reindeer, ice rink and Santa's grotto now being organised. The BID team is also planning to launch town centre Wi-Fi over the coming months.

Councillor Donald Balsillie, Enterprise and Environment Convenor said: "I would like to congratulate the ATCBID with their renewal ballot result. Over the past five years the ATCBID has worked with the Council and other partners to deliver a common goal of improving the town centre and attracting more businesses and footfall into the town."

Chairman David Westland, Alloa Town Centre BID, said: "We would like to thank the vast number of businesses, large and small that supported the ATCBID at the renewal ballot. There are a number of interesting projects and events contained within the ATCBID business plan which we are looking forward to delivering for our members."
