Clackmannanshire Disability Awareness Group (DAG) was founded in 2002 and currently has around 15 members who meet weekly in Alloa.

The aims of the group include:

  • To champion the rights of disabled people
  • To represent people with disabilities
  • To ensure equal status and power in society for people with a disability
  • To care for one another
  • To talk about disability issues
  • To increase public awareness of disability

We have been involved in a variety of projects which have raised awareness of the issues surrounding disability at a number of levels.

Our projects to date have included:

  • being supporters of the European Year of the Disabled 2003
  • R.O.A.D – Raising Operator’s Awareness of Disability.
This European funded project provided training for transport providers.
  • we have encouraged links with like likeminded groups, for example the Community Training and Development Unit.
  • DAG held a Wheelchair Challenge which raised awareness of issues such as access at a political and service level.

We have a number of projects pending which we hope will spread DAG’s message and continue to raise public awareness.

Plans for the future include:

  • promoting the Wheelchair Challenge video to be used as a training tool.
  • creating a DAG database which can be used to provide information on local accessible services
  • setting up a DAG website to further increase awareness of the group and its work.
  • to hold a networking event where local groups with similar interests can meet and share ideas.
