Establish partnerships with various internal and external agencies to create opportunities and pathways for education establishments, communities, individuals, clubs and targeted groups to be active, healthy and realise their sporting potential.
Clackmannanshire Council's Sports Development Team are committed to providing an integrated, inclusive, balanced approach to delivering and developing Physical Activity, PE and Sport.
Teams
Active Start
A unique and innovative programme of physical activity for pre 5 children. Active Start is based on a partnership between Sports Development and Early Years. It includes delivery in nurseries, training for staff and a library of resources.
Active Start has been showcased at many national events and currently training is being delivered by Clackmannanshire staff to other Local Authorities across Scotland.
Primary PE Project
A team of fifteen PE specialists deliver a detailed syllabus to all primary pupils for 1½ hours per week. Launched in August 2004, the Clackmannanshire Primary PE Project has increased the quality, quantity and range of PE delivered to primary school pupils. Evidence can support the positive impact on our young people, schools and school staff of this project.
Active Schools
Primary coordinators, secondary coordinators and an Additional Support Needs (ASN) coordinator with full programmes of extra curricular activities, eg school holidays, support to festivals, competitions and coach education.
This team links closely with Primary PE and Sports Development.
Every primary, special and secondary has sports clubs and an annual programme of inter school sports. The Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Sports Association has an award system for participation.
Sports Specific
Focussing on local need, the Sports Specifc Team consists of a
- Learn to Swim Coordinator;
- Football Development Officer;
- Rugby Development Officer;
- Sports Development Officer.
There are over 200 registered and qualified coaches supporting competitions, coach education and classes.
Sports Apprentices
The Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) and Scottish Football Association (SFA) have been innovative in launching a national modern apprenticeship scheme, and Clackmannanshire Council have been supporting this since 2003.
There are five apprentices in two year posts going through their NVQ and SVQs. Five apprentices have already been successful in completing these qualifications.
There are also currently five Project Scotland volunteers on three month placements.
