Our service has a statutory function, which includes the giving of advice about a child or young person's additional support needs to parents/carers, educational establishments and the local authority.
Educational Psychologists have five core functions:
The majority of our work is requested through a process of consultation, where a problem solving discussion takes place and solutions are identified by everyone involved in the discussion.
We can work at an individual level, a school level or an authority level. Our main aim is to work at a wider level within a Learning Community where our focus is on making a difference to a larger number of children and young people.
Each Educational Psychologist works within a Learning Community, which consists of early years, primary, secondary school and specialist provisions.
An Educational Psychologist will work in partnership with those who know the child or young person best, to ensure s/he becomes a successful learner, confident individual, effective contributor and responsible citizen.
All Educational Psychologists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and further information can be obtained on the HCPC website.
If emailing the Educational Psychology Service, please be careful not to include any information within your email which could identify you or anyone else; the email facility is for general enquiries only.
