Pre-five Support Service

The Pre-five Support Service provides a range of services to very young children with developmental difficulties and to their families.

Parental support is a key element of the service, in addition to support for children and pre-school centres.

Services

Services provided include

  • assessment,
  • advice,
  • consultation,
  • input to the development of Individual Educational Programmes (IEP),
  • and parent support.

Support

Support may be put in place

  • in the nursery/family centre,
  • at home,
  • in specialist small group setting at St John's Primary School.

Referrals

Referrals to the service are made via Psychological Service and are received from parents or carers, from health professionals, from nurseries and playgroups or from Social Services. Referrals are made after discussion with parents and only with parental consent.

Some children may then be referred to CEAT (Clackmannanshire Early Assessment Team) a multi-disciplinary assessment process developed by Clackmannanshire Council together with Central Scotland Health Care to offer co-ordinated assessment and clear proposals for intervention and support.

Intervention at pre-5 aims to minimise the impact which learning or behavioural difficulties have on children's overall development, to ensure each child is able to reach his/her potential.

Early identification offers the opportunity for timely involvement and/or focussed teaching. It allows staff to target strengths and develop strategies to enable children to learn.
