Active Girls

Active Girls

Active Girls initiative aims to increase girls and young women's participation in PE, sport and physical activity. Active Girls includes an annual Active Girls Day (in October each year) where schools, clubs and hubs are encouraged to focus on opportunities for girls participation.

Active Girls includes programmes delivered in partnership with YDance, Youth Scotland and Youth Sport Trust and is organised through local Active Schools co-ordinators.

Fit For Girls

As part of Active Girls, Fit for Girls is a joint initiative between sportscotland and Youth Sport Trust promoting physical activity amongst girls and young women through bespoke training for education providers.

YDance Active

YDance, in partnership with sportscotland, deliver programmes under YDance Active providing opportunities for young women and the teachers who work with them to get involved with Dance.

  • free in-service and CPD sessions are provided annually for primary teachers and secondary PE teachers
  • S3 and above pupils in each of the 3 academies receive training in how to lead dance sessions in a 2 stage process:
    • Day Leadership Award
    • Dance Leader Level 1 award
    • Since the initiative started in 2012 over 130 secondary girls have been trained as dance leaders

Girls on the move

Youth Scotlandin partnership with sportscotland deliver the Girls on the Move project which is designed to increase physical activity levels among girls and young women in Scotland.
