Solar PV and Battery Storage funding for residents in need

The Council has obtained funding from the Scottish Government to provide a limited number of free solar PV and battery storage installations to property owners.

Solar PV and battery storage could significantly reduce electricity costs, and we welcome interest from low income households that have higher than normal energy bills because of disabilities which either require additional heat, laundry requirements or have electrical medical equipment.

Once installed, the solar PV and battery will belong to the owner and they will have responsibility for any maintenance costs, although they do come with a significant guarantee.

If you feel that you may qualify and would like to apply,  please email your contact details to fuelenergyadvice@clacks.gov.uk or call 01259 452698.

We want to ensure that this assistance reaches those residents who would most benefit, and information on any disabilities/health problems will be required, along with income and benefits received.

There is a lot of help available to owner occupiers to help make your home easier to keep warm and help you reduce your energy bills.

Measures which allow you to generate heat more efficiently

A benefits and tax credits check

Many people miss out on money they are entitled to from benefits and tax credits - just because they don't know it's there. Home Energy Scotland can help find out if this applies to you. Some people discover they can get as much as £1,500 extra per year. Call 0808 808 2282 to discuss.

Advice on the best deal from your energy supplier

Energy suppliers also offer some people help towards their energy bills. Home Energy Scotland can advise about any discounts that may be available to help you pay less for the energy you use. In particular, they can apply for the Warm Home Discount, which is a UK Government scheme offering £140 of free electricity to vulnerable, low income households.

More information can be found on our Warm Home Discount page.

Supplier schemes

Some energy companies operate schemes to fit heating and insulation to households which meet certain criteria. These schemes tend to be funded by the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), a UK Government programme which gets the larger energy utilities to install energy efficiency measures in homes. It is worth contacting your supplier to ask about this.
