Aberdona Gallery for Artisans

Travelling Gallery
A mobile art gallery arrived on Clackmannanshire's roads at the end of November 2007 thanks to sponsorship of £20,000 from Aldi. The funding allowed Clackmannanshire Council to purchase the Travelling Gallery from the Scottish Arts Council which has taken hundreds of art exhibitions to communities throughout Scotland.
The vehicle itself is also a work of art thanks to its external design. The exterior has been wrapped in vinyl depicting the stunning 'River Spirit' sculpture by Andy Scott, which is located at Collylands roundabout.
The Travelling Gallery will welcome excellent exhibitions into Clackmannanshire, as well as show ongoing local achievement in the arts. Nationally and internationally known artists as well as students from Glasgow and Edinburgh art colleges, working in Clackmannanshire, will use the gallery. Local artists, crafts people and creative enterprise business will be encouraged to use the facility.
As key supporters in making this whole project possible, Aldi will welcome the vehicle to stores throughout Scotland for up to six events in year one. Shoppers of all ages and abilities will be able to explore the arts with professional artists on board.
Youth Art Workshops - November to June 2009
Detatched youth workers have teamed up with artists from Aberdona Gallery to bring mobile art workshops to the streets of Clackmannanshire.
The first stop is in Clackmannan on Thursday, 27th November from 6.30 - 8.00 pm.
Thereafter, the bus will be in Alva on the last Tuesday of each month and in Clackmannan on the last Thursday of each month from January to June 2009. These events are posted in our Events Diary.
Artivism (part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts & Film Festival 2008) - October 2008
This inspiring exhibiton from Reachout was led by local artist Emma Scott-Smith and developed by local people with experience of mental health problems.Forth's Timeline campaign - August/September 2008
The Forth's Timeline campaign focussed on Scottish history and culture by connecting sixteen of the Forth Valley's museums, galleries and buildings using three themes:- Crucible of Industry' links museums examining the industrial revolution;
- 'Power Struggles' considers 2000 years of conflict at home and abroad;
- 'Landscape of Inspiration' delves into architecture and art inspired by the Forth Valley.

- Core project partners include Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire Councils, Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum and Museums Galleries Scotland through the Regional Development Challenge Fund funded by the Scottish Government.
First Exhibition entitled 'Not A Pretty Picture' - November 2007
This was part of a long term project in Clackmannanshire: 104 Pairs of Shoes raised awareness of domestic violence. The exhibition was on loan from The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in Scotland who invited 104 Scottish women to donate a pair of shoes to represent the two women every week who are killed by a partner or ex-partner.
The shoes were donated by women from many areas of Scottish society, including Harry Potter author J K Rowling, the comedian Elaine C Smith, MSP Susan Deacon and the actor Daniela Nardini, as well as by the families of some of the women who have died.

Previous Highlights
After the success of Lys Hansen’s Daily Bread exhibition in Alloa Tower in the summer of 2001, it was agreed by the funders, Alloa South and East Social Inclusion Partnership and Clackmannanshire Council, to offer the exhibition for hire across the country. In March 2003 Dumfries and Galloway Council requested that the exhibition be hosted at The Tolbooth, part of that Council’s Museum and Cultural Services. The works were received with positive reviews.
Hanging Together is a group of artists from around Alloa and Stirling area who exhibit works together which are created to be site specific. In recent years the group has exhibited in Greenside Cemetery, Alloa with the project Momento Mori, followed by Solar a site specific exhibition in the solar of Alloa Tower.
The group work as individual professional artists and most recently Karen Strang and Peter Russell have been working on other projects across Clackmannanshire.
