Tillicoultry Paper Bank - Closed for Deposits

Local people help recycle 361 tonnes of paper each year - equivalent to four blue whales, the largest animal inhabiting the earth.

Paper is collected each week from eight paper banks situated in towns and villages throughout Clackmannanshire.

But now a popular paper bank in Tillicoultry has been forced to close as a result of repeated vandalism.

George Crockert, Waste Management Co-ordinator said: "The decision to close the paper bank was not taken lightly. However the repeated vandalism and associated risk to public safety forced us to remove the bank.

"We hope the removal of the paper bank will not have an adverse impact on the people of Tillicoultry's recycling effort.

"Indeed it goes against the grain to close a paper bank at a time when we are pushing forward with the final draft of the Forth Valley Area Waste Plan. In this plan the favoured option of the Council and local people is for intensive recycling."

A new scheme was launched last week in a bid to make it easier for local people to recycle. Over 10,000 blue boxes have been delivered as part of the kerbside collection scheme which will allow local people to recycle a variety of household waste including paper.

Paper can be deposited at a number of alternative paper banks in the County. Call ELSA for more information on Freephone 0500 545 540.
