The Park Community Learning Campus has been awarded the Scottish Health At Work (SHAW) Bronze Award - the first education establishment in Clackmannanshire to achieve this.

SHAW is a national award scheme that encourages employers to protect and promote the health of their employees, by creating a healthier workplace.

A working group was established with staff from each area of the Campus and over the past 18 months they have organised events for staff such as displays on health issues and encouraged participation in physical activity. A portfolio of evidence of the different events was gathered together and was submitted to SHAW for assessment.

The work compliments that going on through the Physical Improvement Zone (PHIZ) which encourages the pupils on the Campus to enjoy a variety of physical activities - more often.

Jane Rough, the Manager of Alloa Family Centre said: "We have a group who regularly play badminton and find battering a shuttlecock a great way to relax after a hard day's work, while the walking group exercise our tongues as much as anything else as we march around Clackmannanshire.

"I also think having a target like the SHAW award has helped with the integration of the different establishments which make up the Campus. It has been a lot of hard work, but it's also been a lot of fun."

The Campus walking group have also participated in the Race for Life at Stirling University, which has become an annual fixture in the Campus' calendar with a team of staff called the 'Campus Belles' raising hundreds of pounds for charity in the process.

Other events have included pampering days, swimming, golf, line dancing, Breast Cancer Awareness Days and Scottish Country Dancing on St Andrews Day, education on being safe in the sun, good posture and taking part in National No Smoking Day.

The staff are now enthusiastically working towards their Silver Award and on St Valentines Day will be having a Healthy Hearts Day. You are invited to send a reporter/photographer to Alloa Family centre on Monday 14th February at 12.15pm when staff can be pictured with their Bronze Award.

Two members of the working group will attend the official presentation ceremony in Cumbernauld on 17th February.
