Johanna Wilkinson was named Clackmannanshire Citizen of the Year at an awards ceremony which took place at Kilncraigs last evening.
Johanna received the accolade, which is sponsored by the Lord Lieutenant's Trust, for her many years of work in the voluntary sector in Clackmannanshire, including setting up the Wee County Veterans. This group brings together veterans, their families and supporters from all over the county to events and activities. In addition, Johanna organises events and fundraising through the Sauchie Community Group, and is also involved in the Clackmannanshire Residents and Tenants Federation.
The other finalists for the award were Shirley Allan, Dave Clifford, Gloria Foxton, Jamie Jack, Anne Kelly, Marion Levett, Allan McLellan, Craig Miller, Kenny Mitchell, Elma O'Neil and Celia Peat.
On the same evening, Ryan Kellock was named Young Citizen of the Year.
Ryan regularly gives up his spare time to make a difference in his local community. He volunteers in a number of sporting activities including Easter and summer programmes, runs three football teams for S2-4 pupils and a lunchtime club for ASN pupils and volunteers for school activities including charity fundraising and careers events.
The other finalists for Young Citizen of the Year were Jennie Bain, Lily Christie, Kyle Dawson, Kaitlyn Gray, Connie Henderson, Lauren McCabe, Emma Paterson, Callum Penman, Rachel Rayner, Louise Rogers, Jessica Stitt, Rebecca Watson and Aidan Witty.
Provost Gary Womersley said: "Well done to Johanna and Ryan for being named Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year in recognition of all they do to make other people's daily lives better and more enjoyable. It's really heartening to see the good work that they and all the finalists are dedicating to our communities throughout Clackmannanshire every day, and to celebrate their achievements at the ceremony."
Lt Col Johnny Stewart, the Lord Lieutenant for Clackmannanshire said: "I am so pleased that the Citizen of the Year Award, now in its 13th year, is still so well supported. Clackmannanshire has so many voluntary groups and individuals and it is important to recognise this. I was inspired to hear first hand what the 12 finalists have done in the Wee County over the years. It was very hard to choose between such a strong group of contenders but I am delighted and congratulate Johanna Wilkinson as the winner of the 2016 Award. I would also like to congratulate Ryan Kellock on becoming the Young Citizen of the Year."
