October 2015

Following a review to improve the service, from 23rd October 2015 all advice on the Scottish Welfare Fund will be provided from the Council's head office at Kilncraigs, Alloa.

This will mean that there will be no Scottish Welfare Fund provided at the current office, 8-10 Bank Street , Alloa, from 23 October 2015.

Customers can make applications for the Fund 24/7 online on Clacksweb. Digital access is available in our libraries and community access point offices throughout Clackmannanshire, and staff are on hand to help anyone use the computers. Anyone requiring advice and assistance with a Scottish Welfare Fund application can phone 01259 450000 to speak to a trained advisor. Appointments can be arranged as necessary at our Kilncraigs Office in Alloa.

The Scottish Welfare Fund replaced the discretionary Social Fund provided by the Department for Work and Pensions, and provides grants, not loans. Crisis Grants can be awarded in a crisis to meet expenses that have arisen as a result of an emergency or disaster in order to avoid an immediate threat to health or safety. Applications can be made for living expenses for essential items such as food, heating costs, nappies, toiletries, travel and temporary accommodation costs.
Community Care Grants can support independent living, preventing the need for institutional care. Applications can be made for essential items such as furniture, household equipment, travel costs, removal expenses, storage charges, connection charges for gas and electricity.
