The Food Standards Agency is advising people not to eat a particular batch of vacuum packed smoked salmon which they may have bought in the Edinburgh area after 31st March 2004.
The warning applies to 100gm packs of sliced smoked salmon, smoked and cured for W G Muirhead by Fyne Fish Products Ltd, Argyll, Scotland.
The affected batch was packed on 31st March 2004 with a use by date of 30th April 2004 and bearing approval code AD/054/FE.
Due to a processing fault this salmon may not achieve its full 30 day shelf life allocated by the producer.
A recent sample of the product has been found to have a salt content below the recommended level, which would allow the product to be kept for 30 days at 3 degrees Celsius.
The batch was sold by a fish merchant in Edinburgh and may have been purchased by businesses and consumers in other areas of Scotland.
If you have any of the above product it must be withdrawn for use and disposed of.
If you have any queries concerning any of these products, please contact the Council's Food & Licensing Team on 01259 452541
