Walking Football, a slow-paced version of the beautiful game aimed at the over 50s, has arrived in Clackmannanshire and is already proving to be a hit.

Walking Football is designed to help people aged over 50 keep an active lifestyle, as well as getting those back playing football who had to stop due to injuries.

As the name suggests, Walking Football is non-contact and anyone that sprints, runs or jogs while the ball is in play will be penalised with a free-kick awarded to the other team.

The new craze has been designed to get over - 50s on their feet and playing a 5-a-side version of the game at a pace they are more comfortable with while meeting other local players in a relaxed environment.

Councillor Ellen Forson, Education, Sport and Leisure Convener, said: "We have men and women attending weekly all from different backgrounds including people who have suffered from ill health in the past; people who are retired; and people who work shifts where the timing of the sessions suits them."

Over 50s Walking Football runs every Tuesday, 11am -12noon indoors at Tullibody Civic Centre. Sessions are free for anyone over 50 years old up until 31st March 2015. All participants are welcome to stay after 12noon where refreshments are served.

To take part simply come along on the day or for more information contact the Council on 01259 450000 or email sportsdevelopment@clacks.gov.uk
