The Clackmannanshire Schools Gymnastics Championships took place on Sunday 1st February at Alva Academy. The event is also a qualifying event for the Scottish Schools Final Gymnastics Championships which will be held on 28th March at Bells Sports Centre in Perth.

This year, 14 primary schools entered along with three secondary schools. All schools must qualify for the Scottish Schools final in March through their local event and therefore Dollar Academy were welcomed for their debut performance at the competition. Gymnasts competed in teams of between 3 to 5 pupils. The competition has 2 levels, Level 1 is for the less experienced gymnasts, with Level 2 being the more advanced or experienced gymnasts. Over 270 local pupils took part in the event giving 38 Primary Level 1 teams, 10 Primary Level 2 teams, 5 Secondary Level 1 teams and 5 Secondary Level 2 teams. Dollar also brought four individual gymnasts. There was a massive increase in the number of Primary Level 2 teams competing which highlights the progress the pupils and teachers have made from last year's competition. There were some spectacular performances from both the secondary and primary competitors.

Thanks go to Sonia Grant, Positive Coaching Scotland National Lead Tutor, and Helen Finch, Sunnyside Head Teacher, who presented medals and trophies to the winning teams.

Gymnasts had great support from their families and school staff with almost 600 spectators attending. Alloa Gymnastics Club and Hillfoots Gymnastics Club also supported the event, providing refreshments, a tuck shop and gymnasts to help with the running of the event.
