Lin Anderson, Chair of the Society of Authors in Scotland, and co-founder of Bloody Scotland, Scotland's first annual crime-writing festival, is coming to Clackmannanshire as part of Book Week Scotland 2014 (24 - 30 November).

Now a major date in Scotland's cultural calendar, Book Week Scotland is a national celebration of reading created to highlight Scotland's exceptional cultural, creative and literary talent, and to remind everyone of the unique pleasure that can be gained from a good book.

The 2014 events programme is a treasure trove of delights, with something for people of all ages to enjoy. Booklovers can also get involved by voting for their favourite character from a Scottish book, declaring their love for their library through a heartfelt letter, making a reading pledge to be carried out during Book Week Scotland, or taking a quiz to find their literary soulmate.

The Speirs Centre in Alloa will host the latest Meet the Author event with talented crime writer Lin Anderson on Wednesday 26 November from 7-9pm. The latest and long-awaited book featuring forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod, Paths of the Dead, was published earlier this year and Lin will be talking about this detective series as well as crime scene forensics.

Councillor Ellen Forson, Education, Sport and Leisure Convener, said: "We're delighted to be holding a Meet the Author event during Book Week Scotland, giving everyone in the community the opportunity to share their love of reading.

"If you can't make it along on 26 November, remember that Book Week Scotland is the perfect chance to get signed up to your local library, or dig out your old membership card, to make sure there are books in your house and take the time to enjoy them by yourself and together with your children."

Tickets for the Lin Anderson event are free and must be booked in advance. To book call 01259 452262.

Additional events during the week include storyteller Ron Fairweather visiting pupils at Sunnyside Primary School. For several years now Ron has achieved great success writing and performing the stories, songs and poems on the various themes explored with fellow storyteller Fergus McNicol. Together, as the group Mac-A-Story, they have performed their themed shows with a mixture of madness, mayhem and great humour all over Scotland, achieving rapturous plaudits. You are invited to send a photographer to the storytelling events at either 9.15-10am or 10.15-11am.

Initiated by the Scottish Government and supported, along with a Readers in Residence programme in libraries, by £250,000 from Creative Scotland, Book Week Scotland will be delivered by Scottish Book Trust.

Scottish Book Trust will work with a range of partners across the nation to deliver a packed programme of free projects and events during Book Week Scotland 2014, bringing Scots of all ages and from all walks of life together to celebrate books and reading.

Book Week Scotland in libraries is funded by The Scottish Library and Information Council.
