Councillor Les Sharp has been elected as the new Leader of Clackmannanshire Council. He replaces Councillor Gary Womersley, who intimated at yesterday's Council meeting (23 October) that he will be standing down from the role he has occupied since 2012. Councillor Womersley will remain as a councillor for the Clackmannanshire Central ward.
Councillor Sharp will take up the position on 3 November. He has been a councillor since 2012 and has served as Convener of Housing, Health and Social Care since then.
He said: "These are challenging times in local government, with difficult decisions needed to ensure we continue to deliver important services. We have much to be proud of in Clackmannanshire, with investment made in important areas, and I am determined to carry on the hard work of Councillor Womersley to help Make Clackmannanshire Better."
