A gleaming trio of hi-tech cleaning vehicles are the latest weapons in Clackmannanshire Council's battle against litter.

The three new street sweeping machines, costing £46,000 each, have been unleashed on Clackmannanshire's roads and paths

They join the Council's existing fleet of four street sweepers which clean roads across Clackmannanshire.

Councillor Donald Balsillie, Enterprise and Environment Convener, said: "I'm delighted that we're investing in the latest technology which will help to drive up performance and standards of cleanliness in streets across Clackmannanshire."

Litter trends are monitored in Clackmannanshire using a Local Environmental Audit Management System (LEAMS). This is a Statutory Performance Indicator for all of Scotland's local authorities and is managed by Keep Scotland Beautiful. The system is used to target areas which need attention.

The new street sweeping machines have arrived during the high profile national litter campaign. Posters carrying the names of Clackmannanshire communities and highlighting the issue of littering and the fines that can be issued are on bus shelters across the county.
The posters are part of the national 'A Dirty Secret', campaign and are funded by Zero Waste Scotland. The campaign which has been running in national media, has colourful family and friends characters highlighting their disgust at catching their loved ones littering.
The aim of the posters is to encourage people in local communities to support the National Litter Strategy and highlight the increase in the Litter Fixed Penalty Notice from £50 to £80.
