The head teacher's commitment to improving learning at St Mungo's Primary has been praised by Education School.

St Mungo's RC Primary School in Alloa was inspected in June 2014 and the report on the inspection was published today.

This inspection found the following key strengths.

  • Children are beginning to take pride in their achievements.
  • Involvement of parents and children in securing improvements to the outdoor learning space.
  • The promising start made by the head teacher to involving parents, pupils and staff in improving the school

The inspectors noted in their report that the head teacher has established an agenda for improvement and offered four main points for action.

Education Convener Councillor Ellen Forson said: "We accept the overall conclusions of the report. They set a challenging agenda for the school and we are up for that challenge. Education Scotland has noted that the school is going in the right direction, that it is improving and that it has the capacity to continue to improve, with teachers showing a commitment to delivering consistently high quality learning and teaching.

"With the support of all stakeholders, we will make St Mungo's Primary a school pupils will be proud to attend. We share Education Scotland's expectations of high standards of achievement and attainment for all of Clackmannanshire's young people. We will be working with the head teacher and her staff, as well as pupils and parents, to ensure these expectations are met. We will accept nothing less for our young people. I look forward to seeing the school continue to develop and improve."

The school, in conjunction with the education authority, is now preparing a plan to address the main points for action in the report. The plan will build on the existing strengths of the school to develop a more consistent quality learning experience for all of its pupils.
