Be Aware of Telephone Scammers

Council Trading Standards are warning consumers about bogus telephone callers after a number of residents were targeted.

Several consumers have contacted Clackmannanshire and Stirling Joint Trading Standards with concerns that they or an elderly parent have been targeted by telephone scammers. The bogus callers are claiming that they work for the Telephone Preference Service and that for a "one off "fee the consumers could stop receiving the majority of nuisance telephone calls.

Trading Standards Officers are reminding residents that the Telephone Preference Service is a genuine free service that can block legitimate businesses who cold call consumers. They do not telephone consumers to offer services, and local residents are advised to be alert to ensure that they and their elderly friends, neighbours and family members are aware of the scammers operating locally.

Anyone who is experiencing issues with telephone cold callers should contact Trading Standards on 0845 277 7000 or email tradingstandards@stirling.gov.uk
