Clackmannanshire and Stirling Councils Education Service recently held a 3 - 18 Numeracy Conference at Forthbank Stadium. This was the first event of its kind in the authority, where practitioners from all sectors and other services came together to share learning in numeracy.
The day was organised to allow as many staff as possible to attend, with a variety of informative, innovative, lively presentations and workshops, running throughout the day.
All teachers have a responsibility for promoting the development of numeracy, regardless of their subject area. To raise performance in numeracy and ensure seamless transitions for children and young people, education practitioners work collaboratively across establishments and sectors.
Practitioners from Clackmannanshire and Stirling Schools shared their expertise and experience in numeracy with colleagues at the event. Staff from Balfron, Lornshill, Wallace and Dunblane cluster schools shared how they have developed numeracy within their Learning Communities. Nursery, primary and secondary colleagues set up stalls to showcase good practice in numeracy. This event was a resounding success. It was very well attended and well received, by all practitioners.
Councillor Ellen Forson, Education Convener at Clackmannanshire Council said: "I am delighted the numeracy conference was a success. It is wonderful that practitioners from all sectors were able to come together to share in this rich learning experience. Numeracy is a skill for life, learning and work. To face the challenges of the 21st century, each person needs to be numerate."
