Over 340 children from primary schools throughout the county have taken part in three Rugby 7s festivals in Clackmannanshire.
With Rugby 7s featuring in next year's Glasgow Commonwealth Games, this year's event also played in teams of seven, with the Council's sports development team hosting the festivals.
The Council works closely with local rugby clubs to encourage pupils to develop their skills and knowledge at those local venues. The primary school pupils participating in festivals at Hillfoots RFC, Tillicoultry, Alloa RFC and the Alloa Athletic recreation park.
The festivals are the culmination of a six week block of curriculum rugby delivered to all P5 and P7 pupils. The Clackmannanshire rugby development officer, Stevie Swindall and the rugby apprentice Stephen McGuire worked alongside the primary school staff to improve their skills and support the lessons.
This is one of the most successful years for the festivals, with over 30% of P7 pupils taking part. Staff have noted a huge increase in the quality of rugby skills and understanding of the game.
Provost Tina Murphy was present to hand over fair play prizes to the pupils. She said:
"It's great to see so many boys and girls out playing rugby to such a high standard and enjoying themselves, and to see the great strides that the girls are beginning to make in playing the sport."
The festivals were supported by young leaders from Alloa and Alva Academies who have been receiving leadership training in sport and rugby. Thanks go to all club representatives and school staff who made these festivals so enjoyable.
Training for both Alloa and Hillfoots RFCs takes place on Sunday mornings at 10.30 a.m. If any players would like some more information about joining their local club please contact Stevie Swindall at sports development on 01295 45 2350 or email sswindall@clacks.gov.uk
