A major new development on the western edge of Sauchie has been granted planning permission in principle.

The Council's planning committee has given the green light for around 800 new houses, a primary school, open space, play provision and associated roads, paths and other infrastructure on a 53 hectare site near Branshill Road.

The application was lodged by Allan Water Developments, for residential development, accompanied by an indicative masterplan.

In the intervening period, discussion have taken place between the developer, various Council services and outside agencies. The major focus of these discussions has been around the issues of physical and social infrastructure, education provision and the delivery of affordable housing.

These discussions will inform a Section 75 Agreement, a legal agreement which will seek to achieve a number of conditions as part of the development.

Enterprise and Environment Convenor Councillor Donald Balsillie said: "I'm pleased that this significant development, which is likely to represent an investment exceeding £100 million, has reached this important stage. The discussions have led to an agreement that a new primary school will be incorporated into the site and that around 200 of the homes will be affordable housing."

More detailed plans are expected to come before the Council next year.
