Football FestivalOver 1000 young people have enjoyed taking part in a number of football festivals in Clackmannanshire recently.

The purpose of the football festivals is to offer local school children the opportunity to participate in football in a fun, non-competitive environment where they can enjoy playing in their school teams. Recent festivals which have taken place include P2/3 Tesco Bank festivals, P4/5 Fun Fours Festivals, P6/7 Soccer Seven Festivals and a Girls Only Festival.

Councillor Ellen Forson, Education, Sport and Leisure Convenor, said; "I am extremely impressed with the level of ability and sportsmanship that I have seen across these festivals and I hope that these children, if they do not already play with one of our fantastic local clubs, choose to do so. After all, one of the children may well in time go on to be the next Jordan Rhodes or Leanne Ross."

The festivals were organised by the Council's Sports Development team, with support from class teachers, primary PE teachers and local clubs and coaches, and were part of the wider Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Sports Association festival programme which offers opportunities for school children from all 19 local primary schools the chance to participate in a variety of sports. This annual programme gives pupils the opportunity to showcase their skills and understanding of the games in an interschool environment.

If you are interested in more information about football opportunities in the local area or wish to find out more about local clubs please email sportsdevelopment@clacks.gov.uk. The local football clubs and teams are members of the Clackmannanshire Football Partnership which meets four times a year to develop a positive environment for young players.
