A lot of digging, hoeing and pruning is taking place throughout the Wee County as local gardens prepare to go on display for Clackmannanshire Council's Annual Garden Competition - now in its 26th year.

From flowering containers to gardens brimming with vegetables or spectacular garden displays to innovative commercial gardens, there's a category to suit almost everyone. And budding gardeners are set to battle it out in a new category for best newcomer.

You are invited to send a photographer to mark the launch of the 26th garden competition on Monday 4 June at 10am. Provost Walter McAdam will launch the Garden Competition 2001 in the garden of last year's winners Mr and Mrs McCorgray at 14 Glebe Crescent, Tillicoultry.

Things have changed dramatically since the first garden competition held in 1975. Residents of the Wee County with no garden can now enter thanks to the floral containers category and local businesses are also playing their part in keeping the Wee County blooming wonderful.

Application forms are available from Land Services at Limetree House or can be downloaded from the Council's new website www.clacksweb.org.uk. Closing date for entries is 30th June 2001.
