A group of young Clackmannanshire footballers were represented on the International stage recently at the Coalfields Regeneration Trust Home Internationals which were held in Cardiff.

Alex Whitney, Dean Whitney, John Mitchell, Stephen Hardman, Travis Carpenter and William McClelland all play in Clackmannanshire Council's Scottish FA Midnight Leagues programme, and were picked to represent Scotland at the tournament over the weekend of 31 August.
Despite a difficult journey to Cardiff which lasted 12 hours due to heavy traffic, the boys performed extremely well, displaying great skill and determination.

Going into their last fixture, Scotland only required a draw to secure their place in the prestigious final and despite going a goal down they came agonisingly close to gaining the much needed point before conceding a late second to the eventual winners of the tournament, England. Despite this late heartbreak the players were complimented on their footballing style and passion for the game.

Education, Sport and Leisure Convener Ellen Forson said: "The coaches and players from Clackmannanshire should be extremely proud of their performance at the Home International tournament. Despite the long journey down and the extremely high level of competition, they came very close to reaching the final. I am also pleased they were able to meet fellow players from around the country, and got the chance to watch some top level competitive football too."

Clackmannanshire Council's Scottish FA Midnight League's programme which is delivered by Sports Development begins again for this coming season on Friday 6th September at Recreation Park from 9.00 pm - 11.00 pm.
