Clackmannanshire secondary school pupils are celebrating another year of positive examination results.

The Council is delighted with the high standard of academic attainment achieved by young people this year.

Councillor Ellen Forson, Education, Sport and Leisure Convenor, said: "As we celebrate the achievements of Clackmannanshire's young people, I want to offer my thanks to all of their teachers, lecturers, parents and carers who have supported them in their learning.

"The number of pupils achieving one or more Highers by the end of S6 has reached a record level in Clackmannanshire. This is encouraging news. I wish the class of 2013 the very best of luck in their next steps, be it another year in school, or moving on to college, university, training or employment.

"Increasing exam performance is one of the most important ways we can equip our young people for their chosen career helping to give them the best possible start in life. Although these results are fantastically encouraging we are ultimately striving for year on year progress and we will be working closely with schools to see how we can deliver further improvement next year."

Pupils from Alloa, Alva and Lornshill Academies sat nearly 7,000 exams this summer and early indications are that nearly 90% of these exams received an award.

S4 results have improved across the majority of measures this year, with some showing an increase of up to 4% from last year. Almost all S4 results in Clackmannanshire are the highest they've been since 2001.

S5 results have been showing steady increases in passes over the last few years. S5 results this year have remained consistent with last year's high performance and more pupils than ever are achieving five or more Highers by the end of S5.

S6 results have improved this year; across the majority of measures. The percentage of pupils achieving one or more Highers by the end of S6 in particular has increased to a record 53%. Higher exam results in general in Clackmannanshire have improved by up to 4% this year and are the highest they've been since 2001.

Two helplines are open for candidates following the issuing of the exam results.

Skills Development Scotland has a helpline for candidates whose results were either better or worse than they had expected.

Their advisers can offer information on college and university vacancies, employment and training opportunities and exam resits.

Meanwhile, the SQA Candidate Advice Line provides information for candidates on the content and layout of their certificate.
