Alloa Market

Alloa Market is likely to come to an end at the end of this month, despite attempts by the Council to assist the operators to find a suitable alternative location.

When the original lease at Candleriggs terminated in October 2012 the market operators were granted a temporary license until June 2013 in order that they might secure a more suitable location.

Sadly, despite numerous potential alternative sites having been suggested, a suitable option that meets the aspirations of the market operator does not appear to have been found.

Enterprise and Environment Convenor Councillor Donald Balsillie, said: "Officers from a range of Council Services have been involved in seeking to find an alternative site since last year.

"I understand that a series of meetings has been held with the operator at which some 11 options have been offered by the Council and considered by the operator and it is obviously regrettable that the operators have been unable to secure a suitable alternative site. While I'm satisfied that we have done all we reasonably could to assist the operator in the circumstances, we will keep lines of communication open, to investigate any potential new options."

The lease comes to an end on 28th June, with the last market day scheduled for the previous day, Thursday 27th June.
