Around 900 pupils from Lornshill Academy took part in the school's second Race for Life Event this week, with all the money raised going to cancer charities.

About 100 pupils completed the five kilometre course around the school track - 12 and a half laps of the track. The remainder of the school completed five circuits of the school building.

Michael Docherty of S3 won the race, defending the title he won last year in the inaugural event. The first staff member across the finish line was principal maths teacher Gerry Clancy.

Pupils and staff paid £1 for the privilege of wearing non-school uniform on Friday. A total sum in excess of £1400 was raised by the event and will be donated to cancer charities.

Prizes were donated by various Alloa businesses and very grateful thanks are extended to them for their part in making the event, which is becoming a major feature on the Lornshill Academy school summer calendar, such a memorable success.

The three houses, faculties and other individuals organised stalls with activities such as 'Hook The Duck', face painting and transfers.

Education Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson said: "I would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the event and who helped organise it. The event was for a very worthwhile cause and they managed to raise a terrific amount of money by their efforts."
