Clackmannanshire Council is to hold a Civic Reception to honour Alloa Athletic, following the Wasps promotion to the Irn Bru First Division of the Scottish Football League.

Provost Tina Murphy has agreed to host the Civic Reception on Wednesday 26th June in the Council Chambers at Greenfield.

All 18 Councillors have been invited to attend to meet manager Paul Hartley, and various selected members of the playing squad, along with directors and committee members.

A specially decorated cake has been commissioned to mark the occasion, and the club will also be presented with a framed Council certificate to mark the club's success in gaining promotion for a second successive season.

Provost Murphy said: "On behalf of the Council I would l like to pass on my heartfelt congratulations to chairman Mike Mulraney, manager Paul Hartley and all the playing and backroom staff at Alloa Athletic Football Club for their magnificent achievement of not just gaining promotion to the First Division, but in winning promotion two years in a row.

"It was an exciting play-off final against Dunfermline Athletic, and with both legs of the tie being beamed live on BBC Alba, it was tremendous publicity not just for the club but for the whole of Clackmannanshire, who I am sure are rightly proud of the club's achievements.

"We look forward to welcoming the directors, manager and players to Greenfield for a Civic Reception later this month."
