Clackmannanshire Council's campaign to "Stamp Out" dog fouling has got off to a flying start

Within one day of the campaign launch Community Wardens acting upon information received, have handed out a Fixed Penalty Notice to a dog owner who allowed their dog to foul and didn't clean up afterwards.

In total, 30 Dog Watch signs have been placed prominently on lamp posts in Kersegreen Road, Alloa Road, Cattlemarket, Main Street, High Street, Kirk Wynd, Erskine Place, Mayfield Crescent, Mar Terrace, North Street, Backwood Court, and Woodside Terrace.

In order to enhance the message that dog fouling will not be tolerated leaflets are being hand delivered in these areas. It is also planned to erect larger signs in the near future to raise further awareness.

Enterprise and Environment Convener, Councillor Donald Balsillie, who launched the campaign last week, said: "Leaflets will be hand delivered to residents in problem areas and where possible we will be talking to residents to both raise the profile of the initiative and gather further information to enable enforcement.

"Already we have received valuable information from the public in terms of offenders who are not being responsible in cleaning up after their dogs. All information received will be investigated by the Community Warden Team and feedback given to the person reporting incidents.

"Information received from a member of the public on the first day of the campaign led us to target our patrols the following morning and issue a Fixed Penalty Notice to a dog owner who allowed their dog to foul and did not clean up afterwards in North Street, Clackmannan."

The campaign has been boosted by the help and assistance of local businesses by displaying posters and leaflets and making dog fouling bags available in their shops for distribution to the public.

Clackmannan Community Council secretary Ian Green, who has been very supportive of the Dog Watch Initiative, added: "The Community Council welcome the Council increasing their efforts to make the streets of Clackmannan a better place to walk and free of dog dirt. It is something that as a Community Council we deal with most when it comes to complaints.

"It has also been high on the priority of many of the community groups."

Community Wardens have also visited Clackmannan Primary School and have spoken to the entire school at an assembly about the issue of dog fouling. Leaflets, posters and dog fouling bags were also left at the school.
