Pupils at Craigbank Primary School celebrated the life and work of John Muir the famous Scottish explorer.

Every class from Primary 1 to Primary 7 were involved in lots of different outdoor activities to learn about their local environment and appreciate the outdoors.

Parent helpers and class teachers were also involved in making sure that the children enjoyed themselves during this special day.

Primary 1-3 took part in a range of activities in the school grounds while Primaries 4-7 walked to Gartmorn Dam to carry out some exciting outdoor activities.

All classes had the opportunity to build an outdoor shelter for their group and to make a bird's nest using only one hand.

Primary 6B also led an assembly for the rest of the school where they shared the work they had been doing to achieve the Discovery Award during the year.

Education, Sport and Leisure Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson, said: "It was an excellent educational exercise and I would like to congratulate the school for all their hard work and innovative ideas. They did various activities such as create bird boxes for their wild area and a litter pick, which is also a boost for the local environment."

The school have now successfully achieved their Discovery Award and will be working towards their Explorer Award in the next academic year.
