Stirling & Clackmannanshire Councils' Trading Standards Service are advising caution to consumers who might receive calls offering them amounts as much as £5,000.00 in payment protection insurance compensation if they pay £250.00 by means of an electronic cash voucher.

Trading Standards have received several calls this week from local consumers whom have received phone calls from a caller claiming to be from The Office of Fair Trading.

The caller made known that a cheque for a substantial amount in lieu of a PPI refund was ready to be issued to the consumer and that all that the consumer had to do to receive the cheque was to purchase an electronic cash voucher.

The Office of Fair Trading is aware of these calls and has confirmed that these calls are not originating from their service.

Further information regarding this matter can be accessed onwww.oft.gov.uk/consumer-advice/consumer-alerts/ppi/

Clackmannanshire Council's Convener of Enterprise and Environment, Councillor Donald Balsillie said: "Stirling and Clackmannanshire Councils' Trading Standards Services are urging people receiving such calls not to respond to them.

"They are also advising that the recipients of such calls give out no personal information and they are also advising anyone concerned about such matters to contact their own local Trading Standards Service."
