Clackmannanshire Council's Sports Development, in partnership with Clackmannan County Cricket Club, held their annual P6 Kwik Cricket Festival in glorious sunshine at The Arns.

The event attracted one of the biggest entries the tournament has ever had with 110 pupils from six different schools taking part.

At the end of a hugely entertaining and competitive day, the winning team, with 731 points, were the Craigbank C team. Second place went to the St John's A team, with 718 points and third place were the St John's D team, with 699 points.

Education, Sport and Leisure Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson said: "Everybody, including the staff, had an excellent day and as a result of the festival Clackmannan County Cricket Club saw their junior class rise from six children to 30 players, which is excellent news."

The newly named, Cougar Cubs, will continue to run throughout the summer. Their training time is 6.30pm- 8pm every Friday at The Arns. For further information contact Graeme Anderson - e-mail him at graemeanderson83@talktalk.net.

Last week's event was also a qualifying tournament for the 2013 ASDA National Primary Schools' Cup which will culminate with a National Finals' Day at the picturesque Doo'Cot Park in Perth, on Tuesday 18th June.

In order to reach Finals' Day, Primary Schools will have to win through a series of Regional Qualifying Tournaments. This format will continue to ensure that Cricket Scotland can continue to generate further interest, and additional participation, in the game - as well as providing a competitive outlet for primary school cricket teams and ultimately finding the best school team in the country.

Craigbank Primary School now go forward to the Perth and Kinross Regional Finals on Wednesday 5th June in a bid to reach the national finals.
