More than 170 Clackmannanshire schoolchildren will be going batty this week at the annual Kwik Cricket Festival.
The event, always one of the highlights on the school sporting calendar, has attracted a record 17 mixed teams, comprising both boys and girls, from seven primary schools from all over the county.
The event, for primary six children, will take place on Thursday 16th May, at the Arns, the home of Clackmannan County Cricket Club.
The schools taking part are: Claremont Primary School, Craigbank, Park, St John's, St Mungo's, Sunnyside and Tillicoultry. Each team will comprise eight players.
The winners of the event will qualify to represent Clackmannanshire at the national finals in Perth in June.
The Kwik Cricket Festival is the culmination of a series of talks, taster sessions and coaching classes which have been held in the county promoting cricket in schools.
In conjunction with Cricket Scotland, Ian Shaw, Community Cricket Development Manager for Central, Angus, Fife and Dundee, has held classroom talks with primary six children at both Claremont Primary School and St John's, as well as lunchtime introductory sessions to cricket with both schools.
Education, Sport and Leisure Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson said: "Both schools have been very keen to have additional curricular sessions this term with their primary six classes and they have slotted this into their programme in order to be well prepared for this week's festival."
Ian has been assisted at the coaching sessions by Graeme Anderson, recently appointed junior convenor at Clackmannan County Cricket Club.
The event at the Arms will take place between 11am and 2pm and spectators are welcome.
