Clackmannanshire runners excelled at the annual Scottish Schools Athletics Association Primary Cross Country Championships, which took place last week at Kirkcaldy High School in Fife.

The county were represented by a record 62 entries from 12 primary schools - Muckhart, Tillicoultry, Clackmannan, Alva, Craigbank, Sunnyside, Park, Strathdevon, Menstrie, St John's, St Serf's and St Bernadette's. All the runners were from P6/7.

The best result of the day came from the Tillicoultry Primary School P6 girls team, who finished a brilliant fifth, with Muckhart PS girls coming seventh in the same event.

The top individual performance in the championships came from Muckhart's Holly McLachlan, who finished eleventh in the Girls P6 race in a time of seven minutes and five seconds. In the same race, Tillicoultry pair Sian Angell and Skye Henderson finished 14th and 15th respectively.

Education, Sport and Leisure Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson said: "This record entry is due to the enormous work put in by the primary PE team, Active Schools and Sports Development, all working in partnership as well as their work in the community. I would like to congratulate all of the runners who took part and I am sure we have some stars of the future in the making."
