Schoolchildren from both Claremont Primary and St John's Primary, who next year will form up as the new Redwell Primary School, put their best foot forward this week.
Claremont and St John's Primary schools have been participating in many joint events in preparation for the move towards the opening of the new school in August 2014.
Their latest event was a 'Mapping Day', where children were able to work out what will be their best and safest route to their new school when it opens next year.
Education Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson said: "The Eco committees have been working together, focussing on transport. As part of this topic they were involved with the Safe Routes to School programme.
"The Eco committees recognised the importance to promote safe travel to their new school in order to encourage children to walk, cycle or scooter. They wanted to do this in a fun way so they organised a Mapping Day event."
It took place this week when every class in each school walked from a street in their catchment area to the new school site at Redwell.
Councillor Forson added: "The activity also provided lots of opportunities for learning across the curriculum and development of skills."
The children were able to asses the safest and most user friendly route to their new school, as well as using equipment to measure the distance and time taken for each route.
