Clackmannanshire Council will again lead tributes to commemorate International Workers' Memorial Day at the end of this month.

Workers' Memorial Day is an international day of remembrance for workers killed, disabled, injured or made unwell by their work. It will take place on Monday 29th April. It is an opportunity to highlight the preventable nature of most workplace accidents and ill health, and to support campaigns that promote improvements in workplace safety.

Provost Tina Murphy said: "It will be an opportunity to highlight and support the campaigns that promote improvements in workplace safety, and to remember those workers killed, disabled or injured.

"We should bear in mind all of the families affected; for them it is something that never goes away."

A memorial was unveiled outside Greenfield House four years ago and this year's commemoration will take place at the memorial, where a wreath will be laid at 11am by Provost Tina Murphy and Trades Union representative Pamela Robertson of Unison.

Provost Tina Murphy will deliver a speech before inviting Chief Executive Elaine McPherson to speak. There will also be speeches from Trades Union representative, Pamela Robertson, MP Gordon Banks and MSP Keith Brown. This will be followed by be a minutes' silence and the flags at Alloa Town Hall will be lowered to half mast as a mark of respect.
